Bulgaria has been one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Europe in the last ten years. For its genuine beauty and outstanding culture, it is considered worthy of spending a few days at. It is also not to forget that it is quite affordable for tourists as well as locals. However, traveling to this hidden gem for citizens from different countries somehow seems to be a massive challenge sometimes. If you are from the USA, this article is for you! Here are all the documents you need for traveling to Bulgaria!
1. Passport
This one is pretty obvious. You can use your blue passport as a pass to the country. On the other hand, there are some details we have to mention so that you shall not be surprised at the airport. Keep in mind the date your passport is due. It has to be valid up until three months from your departure from Bulgaria on your way back to the states.
This measure has existed since ever and the only reason is that your passport cannot be renewed in Bulgaria as quickly as you might need it. So in order not to get stuck in a foreign country, you have to make sure your passport has at least three months of validity after you land back in the USA.
Just with the same purpose, there is another little but very important rule. When you open your passport there should be at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps. Make sure you have enough space for stamps, as if you do not, you are not even leaving the states.
2. Visa
This is a very frequent question for tourists as it takes time to earn and validate a visa. Keep calm! There is no need to worry about this. If your stay is less than three months or ninety days in a row, or if your visits to Bulgaria do not compile more than ninety days in six months, you do not need a visa. As a tourist, you will most probably not spend more than three months unless you are coming for the whole summer, for example.
However, if you go to this country for diplomatic reasons, this usually insists on a stay in the country for more than ninety days, so keep in mind that a visa will be needed to pass in.
3. Covid-19 certificate
We all know that the situation is more than just dynamic and things are changing very quickly, so keep in mind that you check the requirements right beforehand of your flight. Considering this point exactly, you will need a Covid-19 certificate. If you are vaccinated, you are good to go. You just have to show your authentic certificate, so that it can be scanned at the airport.
On the other hand, if you are not vaccinated you have to have been tested negative in the last 48 hours. Depending on what your flight is and what its duration is, you might need to be tested at the airport, so keep in mind that this might be a little obstacle to overcome!
Bulgaria is a wonderful place to visit, especially in late spring and summer. However, traveling this far can be a bit hard and mostly a challenge of misinformation. Entering the country from the USA has never been a problem for anybody, but you have to prepare these documents to have an unproblematic moment at the airport entering or exiting this little piece of heaven!
