This year has been a fantastic time for sports fans. After so many of last year’s events were postponed due to COVID-19, this has resulted in 2021 becoming packed with major sporting events. This exciting time in sport has brought so much for sports fans to look forward to this summer. From wondering if Rahm can win Back-to-Back Major Championships in the Same Year? at The Open, to attempting to guess who will top the medals table at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, 2021 is undoubtedly an exciting time for sport.
Seeing all the major sporting competitions happen in the same year is a rare occurrence and will certainly make it one to remember. Unfortunately, many of these competitions have taken place without spectators present, which means sports fans can only watch the action from home. If you usually like to travel to watch major sports events in person, you are likely to feel like you have really missed out over the last couple of years.
If watching the many sporting events that have taken place during 2021 has increased your enthusiasm for sport, then why not give your next vacation a sporting theme? While you may have missed watching this year’s sports events in person, there is no reason not to get out there and enjoy a vacation packed with sports-related fun. There are loads of ways to give your holiday a sporting theme, so if you need some inspiration, why not give some of these vacation ideas a try?
Visit an Olympic Stadium
Being a spectator at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games may not have been possible this year, but this doesn’t mean you need to miss your opportunity for an Olympic experience. Instead, you could take a trip to an Olympic stadium from past years and see the enormity of the venues for yourself.
If you fancy a trip to the United Kingdom, you could travel to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the venue for the London 2012 Games. While you are here, you could follow in the footsteps of swimming legends and take a dip at the London Aquatics Centre. If cycling is more your thing, a trip to the Lee Valley VeloPark is a must. Here, you can hire a bike and try out the velodrome for yourself, test your skills on the Olympic BMX track, or follow the mountain biking trails.
Another fantastic Olympic venue to visit is the place where it all began, Athens. A visit to Athens, Greece is an experience you will never forget. The original home of the modern Olympics, the Panathenaic Stadium, was first used to host the Olympics back in 1896. If you prefer to travel further back in time while in Greece you could visit Olympia and see the home of the ancient Olympics. This incredible site was home to the games from 776 BC until 393 AD.
