If you were ever to face an unexpected challenge in the wilderness, would you be ready? It never hurts to put your survival skills to the test.

Below are the top adventures that an individual, couple, or entire family can experience to endure the elements.

Essentials for your survival vacation

A challenging survival vacation is a memorable experience for you, your family, or your friends. As you embark on any of these survivalist vacations, stock up on the necessary survival gear. Otherwise, uncontrollable shivering and growling stomachs will be in your forecast. Below are some of the essential items to pack with you to brace for the elements, which you can buy from outdoor retailers such as Self Reliance Outfitters:

  • A reliable knife, waterproof backpack, rope, cords
  • Water purification system, first aid kit, and compass
  • Sleeping bag, tarp, tent, and duct tape
  • Raincoat and flashlight

Get lost

The Black Tomato hosts an engaging survival experience at a remote location. This experience challenges the vacationers to navigate their way back to civilization.

The only condition you choose is the environment type. You will be unaware of the specified location until you arrive on the spot, where you receive the required equipment and guidance. From there, the Black Tomato team will follow your journey. However, you will not see or hear from them the entire time.

Aboriginal living skills school

The Aboriginal Living Skills School (ALSS), hosted by Cody Lundin, is one of the most popular survival schools in North America. Programs focus on delivering survival education, and the concepts come from someone with over 30 years of experience. Lundin seeks to help others step outside their comfort zones.

ALSS has a variety of locations and courses with varying difficulties and educational challenges. Lundin will take you on a journey across a tundra, dessert, or other attractive survival locations. Through this insightful getaway, you will learn how to survive without any gear or resources available.

Docastaway

If you are looking for a daunting challenge on an uninhabited, remote island, the Docastaway is the ideal survival vacation for you. You travel to the raw island in Oceania, the Philippines, or Indonesia to put your survival skills to the test.

You can choose from varying difficulty levels like low, high, and extreme. The views are incredible, but you will have your hands full while trying to “survive.”

SurviVacation

The SurviVacation, based in Indiana, is a suitable option for a family looking to hone their survival skills within a 3-day weekend. You will travel to the Survival Training Willow Haven Facility, which includes lodging and modern equipment.

While this is not the ideal spot for an expert survivalist, it is a great beginner course for people to gain firsthand skills and experience. The entire family will learn about water purification, navigation, starting a fire, and hunting food.

Jack mountain bushcraft school

The Jack Mountain Bushcraft School, founded in 1999, provides full immersion survival courses. There are both 2-week and 9-week courses that match up with your different needs. These programs go through forests, canoe trails, and other snowy expeditions in Maine led by reliable experts.

Boulder outdoor survival school

The Boulder Outdoor Survival School is one of the oldest survival training schools in the country. Based in the Southern Utah Mountains, the school provides courses that range between 7-28 days.

For veteran survivalists who want a sustainable challenge, this is the spot to be. Backed by over 40 years of training, the school provides education for people of all experience levels and perspectives.

Final wrap-up

Whether you are an expert explorer or a novice adventurer ready to learn, you can find a survivalist vacation that meets your needs. Take your resourcefulness to the next level with one of these adrenaline-pumping challenges.
