I woke up, less stiff than anticipated after our Sentinel Peak Hike, at 5am and felt almost instinctivley drawn out by the dawn. I headed out, with my camera in one hand and biscuits in the other, toward the dam.
When I arrived the birds of the dam awoke and scattered before me, probably at the sight of my morning face.
The reeds were looking nothing short of spectacular in the chilly breeze.
and when I got to the end, I looked back…
Walking back toward Amphitheatre Backpackers the golden grass caught my attention.
as did this solo strip of green!
It’s as though they breed racing pigeons here – there are literally hundreds that love flinging themselves through the air at incredible speeds.
Acacias casting shadows on the lawns kept neatly trimmed by local cows.
Sunrise, complete. Truly magnificent out here in the Drakensberg.

The Drakensberg is magical! Been going almost every year for 19 years with my family… It revitalises the soul!

I am in serious envy of you Tweetyberdey, this was our first trip and we only spent three nights there. However they were three glorious nights that have had us longing to return!
