We are super excited to let you all know about our road/rail trip through our beautiful country South Africa during the month of October 2013.
In collaboration with SA Venues
we will be travelling from one side of the country to the other in search of the unspoilt, the beautiful and the adventurous corners of SA.
The first leg of our journey will see us boarding a train from Cape Town to Pretoria on the world’s most luxurious train: The Rovos Rail! We’ll get to bring out our cocktail dresses and evening jackets after months of island style living in Koh Samui.

Once off the Rovos Rail train, Around about Cars will be our next mode of transport through the country.
We’ll spend three days in Jozi exploring this big City of Gold. Next, we get our safari on at the Kruger National Park where we’ll stay at Jock Safari Lodge and Maqueda Lodge. We’ll don our neutrals, go on game drives and hope to spot an abundance of majestic wildlife.
Next we move inland to the Amphitheatre Backpackers in the Drakensberg where we’ll get a chance to put on our hiking boots and maybe even pop over the Lesotho border.
Durban Backpackers will be our spot in Durban, before we head down the Wild Coast and stay at some of Hostelling International South Africa’s hostels.
In Coffee Bay, we’ll experience a bit of rural Africa at The Coffee Shack, Buccaneers Backpackers where the river and the ocean meet in Chintsa and move inland to enjoy the indigenous forests and mountains of Hogsback at Away with Fairies.
Spectacular Chintsa along South Africa’s Wild Coast.
Once in Kenton-on-Sea, we’ll stay at Sibuya Game Reserve and Tented Camps with a sweet combination of game, river and forest.
On the final leg of our trip before we get back home, we’ll find five star luxury in the private nature reserve of Grootbos.
We are excited to explore more of our own country, so be sure to follow myself (@thetravelmanuel) and Vaughan (@VaughanMac) on twitter along with the hashtag #SAroadtrip
We’d like to give big thanks to SA Venues for making this trip possible and also Around about Cars for a rental car!

Lauren says
me too! Hehe, but you’ll be in the Wild Coast this month too, so you’ll get your fix 😉
Heinie says
Wow, an awesome itinerary indeed Lauren! The Wildcoast blows me away every time with the Pondo culture and friendliness of the Xhosa. If only you could also swing down to the Garden Route for a little taste of Eden itself! Be sure to pop in anytime, Regards Heinie
