How to make the most of your experience abroad

No two experiences abroad are the same. Whether it is a leisure and adventure experience or one with the aim of studying, there are always variations between one and the other. For many, fortunately, spending time abroad is the best time of their lives; however, it is not the case for everyone.

There are some who go home early due to nostalgia and others who do not take advantage of it at all and spend their time away from home only with people from their home country. Ynsitu, the pioneering marketplace for language courses abroad, brings you some tips to make the most of your study abroad experience:

1- Choose the right place

Choosing the right location is very important. Try to choose a place you’ve always wanted to go to. There are probably not many times in your life when you can live in a foreign country for months at a time, so studying abroad is a great opportunity to get into a country that has always fascinated you and to which you have wanted to travel. Imagine going to those places that you have had so many times in your imagination…Other factors to consider are also the classes that you are going to take, taking into account if they really are the right ones for your objectives and even if in some cases they can be validated when you return to your country of origin.

2- Save money before you go

Living abroad, and more depending on the location, can be quite expensive. On the one hand there are the costs of the ticket itself, and then the costs of the course, accommodation and life itself in that country

Also, probably another part of the expenses will come from travel. Very few people who study abroad spend all their time in one place. Living abroad puts you near places you would otherwise be far away from, and weekend trips are fairly common among study-abroad students. Otherwise, when would you ever have the opportunity to travel to incredible places that are now so close to you abroad? Make sure you have saved enough money so you can make a good trip while you are abroad.

3- Interacting with the local people and your colleagues

First of all, you will be able to interact and socialize with all your classmates, who will come from many different countries. This is really important since they will be your main support along your adventure, so it’s perfect if you create a nice relationship between all of you. But also, on the other hand, you will have the opportunity to do the same with the local people, those who are not your own companions, which will give you a more complete vision of the culture and customs of the place, their authentic accent, their ways of life … something that will help you greatly to achieve a unique experience.

4- Make good use of your time

Spending an entire afternoon watching a season of your favorite series on Netflix may be a common hobby for you at home, but this is generally not a good use of time while traveling abroad. Use that time to research things to do in your area and, most importantly, do them. There are certainly plenty of free activities to do while you meet and make new friends and interact with them in their language.

5- Make the most of your stay in the country

A semester abroad flies by. Remember to squeeze the experience of studying a language course abroad to the max. Take pictures, but don’t let taking pictures prohibit you from seeing the sights with your own eyes. Put the phone down and look around.

Studying abroad is a wonderful thing. It is a fun and beneficial experience that only a few people choose to do, but that they remember all their life as one of the happiest moments of their lives. Use these tips to make the most of your time.

In Ynsitu you have a large number of courses in many different countries so that you can develop your adventure in the best possible way. An experience that you will undoubtedly remember forever.
