European Festivals to see before you need a walking stick.

With summer just around the corner here in the southern hemisphere and the return of music festivals imminent I started to think about which festivals we’d like to attend since we’re back in South Africa and have missed so many over the last three years. But then I remembered that we’re just about to have our first baby and a new born probably won’t be stomping for another year or so.

There is also the small fact that Lauren would kill me.

Since we are planning a trip to Europe next year (like we mentioned here: Why you should visit Europe now) I started thinking about European festivals we need to see while before we get completely overwhelmed by the responsibilities of life.

Or get old.

But old people can still rock hard. Like THIS GUY.

In any case, here are some of the European festivals we’d love to attend over the next few years

Germany: OktoberFest:

Lauren’s actually been to Okoberfest before and she loved it. Not officially a music festival, it’s just one of those festivals that I’d love to check out and see what it’s all about. Obviously it’s mostly about beer. And Lederhosens!

OktoberFest is located in Munich and the Munchers have created one the most well known festivals all around the world.

England: Secret Garden Party:

If there’s one thing England knows how to do better than most, it’s music festivals. Which is why we’ve included two in this line up though arguably there could have been many more.

The Secret Garden Party looks like an incredible alternative, a break from the norm. Check out their website for more information.

Belgium: Tomorrowland:

Needs no introduction. Tomorrowland is an electronic music festival that is all about visual impact. Located in the town of Boom in Belgium, people from around the world flock to Tomorrowland. Justifiably. It’s mental.

Check out the official after movie below of 2015’s Tomorrowland it’s 20 minutes long and drool worthy.

England: Glastonbury:

One of the best and most popular festivals in the UK at the moments. In fact Glastonbury is apparently the largest greenfield music and performing arts festivals in the world! What’s even more impressive is that the tickets for Glastonbury 2016 sold out in 30 minutes. 135 000 tickets. 30 minutes.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up from the floor.

Anyway, we clearly are not going to make Glastonbury 2016. But we’d still love to attend in the future.

Czech Republic: Colours of Ostrava:

A little bit smaller and located in the Town of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Colours of Ostrava is a multi-genre music festival and has been held annually in Dolní Vítkovice since 2012 but has been around since 2002. I think the main reason behind going is to get to Czech Republic and explore some of the outer lying areas.

Iceland: Iceland Airwaves:

It’s no secret that I’ve been looking to get to Iceland for a long time now. What better way to end a photo tour of Iceland than with a music festival to warm up at? I can’t think of any better way actually. Iceland Airwaves has been going strong since 1999 and Rolling Stone Magazine called it “The hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar.”

Their website is also very cool.

Spain: Ibiza Closing Parties

Ibiza. Who wouldn’t want to experience this at least once in their lives? Spanish island + house beats + warm temperature + best DJ’s from around and the world?

Enough said.

Ireland: Longitude :

I’m ending my music festival world tour in Ireland. Why? Because people with an accent that awesome have to phenomenal to party with. And because it’s Ireland. My ancestors come from Ireland i’d absolutely love to take Lauren and our soon to be baby boy travelling through the it.

The Longitude music Festival looks spectacular and isn’t as huge as some of them get so for us, it’s a perfect fit held in a stunning location. Check out their highlights video below to see what I’m on about.

Spain: Pamplona Bull Run

This adrenaline pumping festival is a must to experience either from the safety of a balcony or getting up, close and personal with the bulls. The bull run festival is held every year from July 6 to July 14

.

We’ll probably be booking or accommodation through Expedia and hope they’ve got some awesome specials going when we do. What European festivals would you add to this list / always wanted to attend?
